City Council Cancels Election On Street Paving Bonds

The Cameron City Council canceled Tuesday's February 13 election on a $100000 street paving bonds issue after finding legal technicalities. The paving and anti paving committees faced off with chairs S A Cottle and A N Green. City Attorney Paul Webb and local attorney Ike No attended as opinions differed on whether proper resolutions were required before issuing bonds. The motion to cancel, offered by Henry M Hefley and carried on O M Smith’s motion, adjourned the meeting.

Americas Answer draws crowds in Cameron screenings

The American Legion presents Americas Answer at the New Herley Theater Cameron drawing hundreds per showing on Monday and Tuesday. At a Friday meeting the Civic League declared February a tree planting month for the City Park. Citizens are urged to donate pecan or elm trees and join a plant-a-tree effort. a committee will choose sites and the City Council funds care.

Joe Sypert Case Set For Trial In February

State of Texas versus Joe Sypert charged with sale of intoxicating liquor is set for trial Monday in the district court. Sypert has twice stood trial in this court with juries unable to reach a verdict. He was arrested by city Marshal Vince Lucas and deputy George Richards. At examining trial Bob Elliott of Santa Fe testified and was bound over to district court. The exam was supervised by S. M. Burns Jr. then Cameron city attorney.

Two Wolves Slain After Long Forest Chase Near Cameron

A pack of eleven hounds hunted and killed a large female wolf and later a male wolf in a dawn-to-dusk pursuit west of Cameron. Hunters led by Penn Wost tracked the beasts from midnight, with a fatal clash lasting hours. Pelts were damaged by dog fangs. local farmers report livestock losses as the timber wolf pack is thinning and nearing extinction in the area.

In Austin on February 13 the Baker proposed anti parochial school measure requiring public school curriculum in private and parochial schools was killed by striking the enacting clause 72 to 53. The debate over religion and education dominated the session as Governor Neff observed.

The Commissioners Court awarded county funds for the year to Citizens National Bank after bidding the highest rate on daily balances at 3.14 percent. Only three banks submitted bids. Episcopal Bishop Will Speak Here

The Rt. Rev.
