Kraft Co. Is Ready for New Cheese Plant Opening

After a chamber of commerce meeting Kraft-Phoenix officials announced the cheese plant nearing completion will open on March 1. B M Alexander will manage the plant and supervisor John C Baldwin said broad interest exists and success is likely. Alexander and Baldwin planned outreach in Robertson County to secure cooperation and milk outlet for the Cameron plant with routes to be announced. The plant capacity is 40 000 pounds of milk daily and can be enlarged on short notice.

Cheese Plant Head Secures Farmer Cooperation in Cameron

B M Alexander manager of the Kraft Phoenix Cheese plant in Cameron canvassed milk producers in Marak Yarrellton and Ad Hall. He thanked farmer leader Joe Slavik for cooperation and forecast strong milk supply from the territory west of Cameron. He expects plant opening on March 1 to exceed expectations with good prices.

Kraft Plant In Cameron Set To Open March First

Butter fat prices at the Kraft Phoenix Cheese plant in Cameron will be top market when it opens on March 1. February milk market opened at 86 cents per pound. G F Kraft says better cows needed as a cow producing three gallons daily yields about 25 pounds of milk. If milk tests 5 percent butter fat, the cow would give one and a quarter pounds and fetch about 45% per day from that source. Peanut hay discussed as a prime feed. trench silos urged for small producers with 5 or 6 cows.

Kraft Phoenix Cheese Plant Nears Opening in Cameron

The Cameron Kraft Phoenix Cheese plant, nearly completed, will open March 1. F Kraft, building engineer, welcomed a Herald visitor as the operation grows to 25 000–30 000 pounds of milk daily with room to expand. The 100 by 66 foot facility holds two 11 000 pound vats, whey storage, mixing and cooling rooms, and offers on‑time sale of 10‑gallon cans at 4.25 each to farmers who trade milk for cans. Milk Whey Good Pig Feed Boosts Hog Health and Profit

G F Kraft reports whey from the Kraft Phoenix Cheese plant as top pig feed. A 25 pound pig fed whey and shorts reached 187 pounds in 86 days, with pigs thriving and healthier, claiming whey cuts disease and yields profit. Whey is about half the food value of skimmed milk.

Lumbermen Convene in Cameron Texas District 16

Texas Lumbermen from District 16 gather in Cameron for a March meeting led by R. P. Fisher of Jeter Lumber Company who attended the Austin convention this week. More details to come next week. Also in Milam County, Larry Fillers, Davycock, and Eugene Crawford were jailed on poultry theft charges after a sheriff’s arrest in LaGrange. Mrs Ike Moseley, 89, died in Cameron from injuries from a Sunday fall near Minerva. Jack Crain, former convict, was found sane and faces trial for assault with intent to kill and robbery. J L Slaughter suffered serious injuries when his truck, in gear, ran over him while he cranked it, leaving him at home with multiple injuries.

Ray N. Duckworth, longtime financial secretary at First Baptist Cameron, resigns to become head of music and educational work at Hill Crest Baptist Church in Dallas. He leaves March 9 as Cameron marks his outstanding service and Dallas church reports 1205 members and 1100 Sunday School enrollees. A loose fragment notes a lost item with reward.

County Officials Turn Over Fees to Treasury This Week

Fees totaling 870.40 were paid to the County Treasurer by five offices. January fees from the Tax Collector were not yet available but will be reported. Payments: County Judge 24, County Clerk 724.05, District Clerk 54.85, Sheriff 61.80, District Attorney 10.20. Homer Nabours, the county clerk, contributed the major share.

Baptist Laymen To Meet Here Feb 15

Baptist laymen from 22 Milam County churches will gather at 7 30 Saturday night February 15 at the Cameron Baptist Church to hear Dr A T Wilson of Temple and Jude R Stuart Barron of Bryan. Ray N Duckworth announces the meeting to sponsor a Milam County Baptist Association Layman's Club with Ray Burke presiding while the male quartet will sing. The speakers are well known laymen.

Maysfield farmers hosted a Monday night meeting led by B D Parnell on cattle diseases. The gathering also covered the Kraft Phoenix Cheese plant opening in Cameron with B M Alexacdey named manager and Phillip Miller as field representative. A follow up meeting was planned as E Woodruff discussed rural electrification.
