Balance For Endurance in Milam County Economy
The Milam County agriculture sector saw gross receipts rise to about 25.3 million in 1970 from 19.33 million in 1969, a 31 percent gain. Inflation likely explains part of the rise, with about 6 percent national inflation and an estimated 10 percent from cost increases, leaving roughly a 15 percent real gain. Payroll grew with 250 new jobs and 40 layoffs recently, while Cameron payrolls rose over two years, signaling a robust, balanced economy poised to lift Milam County ahead of many Texas counties in the coming decade.
