Desolate Prairie settler recollections of Yarrellton history
The article recalls J C Perkins the first white settler in 1868 describing Yarrellton as a desolate prairie except along the creek bed. It recounts early families, a store by Tom Yarrell, a live rattlesnake tale, the wedding trip of Mrs Florence Reed Harris, charity of local doctors, a Masonic Lodge founded in 1884, a Missionary Baptist Church in 1892, and the 1957 consolidation of Yarrellton school with Cameron ISD. The town grew to about 100 families with multiple businesses and churches before later changes.
