Yoemen 10 Report for Spring Practice Begins February 10

Fifty Yoemen will report for spring practice on Monday February 10 with 40-man initial squad. Coach Leo Jackson notes drills at scheduled times and many veterans among the hopefuls. After the basketball season ends February 18, ten more Yeomen join the football squad for spring work. The spring will close March 10 with an intersquad game.

Cameron hosts Georgetown at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday after a schedule shift. The Yeomen travel to Belton for a 2 p.m. Friday matchup. A previously planned Cameron Georgetown game was moved to Cameron due to gym unavailability at Southwestern University.

Former Cameron resident and Waco lawyer Hilton Howell has entered the race for president of the Texas State Bar Association. Practicing in Waco since 1922, Howell was born near Lexington and is tied to Cameron through family. He has served as special chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court and special associate justice of the Tenth Court of Civil Appeals by gubernatorial appointment and has been active in state and American Bar Associations.

Spiritualist Church to Host 50th State Mass Meeting

The First Spiritualist Church will host the Texas State Spiritualist Association annual Mass Meeting on Sunday February 9 with services at 10 30 p m and 7 00 p m plus a noon luncheon by the Ladies Auxiliary. Merlin Lester Named TP&L Chief Clerk in Cameron District

Merlin Lester was appointed Chief Clerk in the Texas Power & Light Company district offices here, succeeding Henry M. Liebman as manager. A World War II navy veteran, Lester previously worked for TP&L in Cameron and resumed his old position in September 1945. He is a Jones Prairie native, married with one son, Merlin Jr., and his wife is the former Althea Harris of Cameron.

J E Whittington of Milam and Bell counties buried at Val Verde following funeral services held February 2 at the Val Verde Baptist Church. He died February 1 in Belton at Sewell hospital. Hicks Seeks Surplus Government Buildings for Schools

Chas. M. Hicks county superintendent asks federal government for surplus housing from the Hearne Prisoner of War Camp to use for Negro schools in the county and other feasible needs. A cold storage unit is sought to store food for free lunch programs. Hicks currently stores two car loads of food in Taylor for lack of storage in Camerson. Fred Stone of the State Department of Education discussed the application with Hicks.

Mrs. V. A. Wokaty and her daughter from Corpus Christi visited Cameron last week. The clan formerly lived in Cameron and many friends enjoy their visits, maintaining warm local ties.
