Phone Rates Rise as February Bills Arrive

The city council passed readings raising local phone rates by about 13.5 percent starting with the February 13 billing. Donors Urged to Give at Red Cross Blood Drive

The Red Cross bloodmobile targets 73 units for today's visit at Methodist Fellowship Hall from noon to 6 p.m. Donors and prospective donors 18 to 65 may give a unit after a brief medical check, blood pressure, temperature, and hemoglobin test.

Contests Form in May Democratic Primary Across County

Contested races emerge for county attorney sheriff and constables in the May Democratic primary with a February 2 filing deadline. Incumbent Charles C. Smith Jr. seeks reelection to county attorney against John Henderson, and Sheriff Carl Black faces Leroy Broadus. Multiple precinct constable contests exist, plus races for justice of the peace and county offices. Incumbent Dan Kubiak and Bob Poage also feature in district and national contests with local party posts hotly contested.

Yoe Edges Rosebud Lott In District Tilt

The Cameron Yoemen defeated Rosebud Lott 72 59 to extend their district win streak. A second quarter press produced 26 Yoe points. Ronnie Bennett led with 28, followed by Mike White 16 and Jafus White 10. Cameron also won junior varsity 64 49 and freshman 58 40.
