The local council will sponsor a 42 party in the K. of C. hall Friday night under Rudolph Richter. Admission proceeds go to the Red Cross to aid homeless flood victims. Public is invited and council members and families are urged to attend.
District 8 farm life shows improved conditions in 1936 with the best outlook since 1928 for 1937. Miss Zetha McInnis, district agent, notes gains across Anderson, Bell, Bosque, Burnet, Coryell, Falls, Freestone, Hamilton, Hays, Houston, Lampasas, Leon, Limestone, McLennan, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Travis and Williamson counties.
A Cameron editorial blasts a district coaches vote that adds a ninth member club and ends regular games with Belton Granger Taylor Georgetown and Thrall. Yeomen would play only Rockdale Thorndale and Rosebud in district games, with seven non district dates, risking finances and fan interest.
Hill faces trial in Travis County district court on Monday for the 1935 murder of night policeman George Richards. Indicted by Milam County grand jury, Hill was sentenced to 99 years after a prior trial and appeals due to jury misconduct. He now runs a cafe in Temple as proceedings face possible witness contempt fines.
The Holmes Bus Line started operation through Cameron on February 4 announced by Mr. Holmes who advertised schedules in this issue. The route runs from Temple through Heidenheimer Rogers and Cameron passing Maysfield Port Sullivan to Hearne, expanding service via Richt Hotel terminal already hosting Bee Line Coaches.
Mauritz Baldwin Corporation received two cars of farm implements this week. They have been unloaded and will be assembled for the farm market this week.
Milam County Red Cross drive shows $899.09 raised toward a $750 quota with calls to raise the target as illness from floods grows. Several communities remain unheard from and others will likely add to contributions. The Cameron Theatre Midnight Show gave $101.10 to the fund. Fr. Be. Woodruff notes broad support and promises fuller mention next week.
Stanley H. Swift of the Cameron Theatre reported that 101.10 was raised from a midnight matinee benefit for flood sufferers. He provided the largest single contribution to almost 1000 in hand for the Red Cross relief fund aiding Ohio Valley sufferers. Advance ticket sales promised a strong return despite bad weather.
District Governor Mninks spoke at a Bryan gathering Monday urging Lions to take greater interest in their organization. The meeting brought together members and former Lions to discuss renewed involvement and engagement.
Delegates of the United National Association of Postoffice Clerks will gather in Cameron at 8 p.m. February 12 for a banquet and business meeting, with about 50 visitors expected. W. W. Skinner will be toastmaster and O. C. Acrey will welcome.
The progressive IGA store of A. J. Mondrik forges ahead with a weekend sale ahead of Lent. Featur ed prices target foods consumed during abstinence as January sales boosted by advertising drive. Cameron trade improves.
State senator Dr Newton III remained in his Austin hotel with influenza and pneumonia. Noon report said his condition was somewhat improved but danger remained.
Indications the Kraft Phoenix Cheese Company would shut its Cameron plant within a week have stirred Cameron Chamber of Commerce and milk producers. Causes cited include poor rural roads bad weather and flood conditions. If closed it would be the third Cameron plant to leave the city and officials vow to act quickly to try to save it.
