Advocates argue Cameron should acquire a 101 acre country club site with a $10,000 clubhouse and lake system to create park space, swimming access, fair and rodeo grounds, and a convention venue. City could gain recreation for all, while lowering costs versus Wilson Ledbetter Park plans.
Mayor Smith's grip on city government solidified after a low turnout nominating primary. A write in campaign for Fred Jackson drew 58 votes, while Smith received 219 of 282 cast. Vote details show 8 for Barton Brown for City Marshal and five scratches for the mayor. Officials elected include Roy Griffith and E. I. Schiller as aldermen. W. A. Morrison city attorney. W. T. Stafford tax assessor and collector. Dan Tyson secretary and treasurer. Executive committee members are Roy Baskin chair and four others.
Wells Fargo starring Joel McCrea and Bob Burns opens Sunday at the Cameron Theatre Cameron. The Frank Lloyd epic traces the Wells Fargo Company’s rise from Pony Express to air express and its role in the West and the Union war effort. The cast includes Frances Dee Lloyd Nolan Porter Hall and others in a story by Stuart N Lake.
Delegates from the Marlin district of the Methodist church will attend a conference in Cameron Friday February 4th under the Aldersgate movement for a union of church branches. Dr J W Mills of Beaumont will speak to the delegates about a life study of John Wesley.
Works Progress Administration in San Antonio has allotted $598 in funds to the Cameron schools to build driveways on the school campus. The school board will add $414. The project will employ 19 people for the stipulated period.
Former First Methodist church minister Rev. L. J. Power died Tuesday at his Gulfport home. He served as Presiding Elder in the Seashore District of the Mississippi Conference.
Ad Hall defeated Jones Prairie to win the rural basketball title. Barron scored 17 points while Capt. Gerick added 15. Voculin Mikula and Pfardrescher contributed solid guard play as Ad Hall secured victory.
S E Brogdon longtime Southwestern Life Insurance representative based in Cameron receives the annual financial statement reflecting another year of progress for the Texas company founded in 1903 He qualifies for membership in the Southwestern Life club by volume of insurance written in 1937 and will join the company convention in San Antonio April 7 8 and 9 He is a Million Dollar Club member and has a weekly insurance application record spanning over five hundred consecutive weeks He is also active in the National Association of Life Underwriters and attends annual Sales Congress events in addition to local luncheons.

Taylor president of Howard-Payne College Brownwood will deliver the annual address at the Chamber of Commerce banquet on March 8 President J R Hayes announced after talking with Dr Taylor who spoke in Brenham Tuesday night Former Governor Neff declined due to prior commitments Emory B Camp committee chair held a meeting Wednesday at 10 am

A. J. Jackson, 93, longtime Milam County resident and Salty Community figure, died January 30 1938 at his home. He served under General Lee, helped organize the Salty Singing convention, and was a Methodist church official. Funeral services were held February 1 1938 at the Salty Methodist Church. He is survived by his widow and twelve children plus numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cameron council Knights of Columbus held a picture program via a slide show provided by Coca Cola Bottling Co. Rudolf Richter and Louis J. Matula organized the event. The “42 Party” drew about one hundred guests at the Knights hall and heightened interest in the Roosevelt dance this year.
Robert Young Baskin, 26, died in a Huntsville hospital after a car wreck on a highway near the city. He rode with J. P. Hopper and Jack Denton, both of Huntsville, who were injured. The accident was reported to his mother Mrs. Sue Baskin in Cameron. Known as Red by friends, he had recently returned to Texas from seisograph work.
Miss Gussie Rowlett reports from Rockdale on February 7 that the Baptist Workers Conference afternoon session marks the 50th anniversary of the Southern Baptist WMU with Rev. Vernon G. Miles delivering the Jubilee sermon.
A. J. Trigga and W. Triggs were injured Monday morning when their car left the highway east of the city, struck a ditch and embankment, and hit a tree. A. J. Trigga suffered a broken nose from flying glass. W. Triggs received a severe facial wound.
