Mrs Holder announced winners in several categories for the citys first Christmas decoration contest. Grand Prize went to Billy Shelander. others include David Kubiak, Harry Tag, Henry Litzman Jr, Monroe Marek, and honorable mentions like Carl Grothe, John Moseley, W C Crouch, Patsy Fine, Herman Reinicke, Rudolph Tepera Jr, Tommy Canady, Newton Memorial Hospital, and Abiding Saviour Lutheran Church. Winners asked to keep lights on 7 to 9 pm for public viewing.
County commissioners awarded the low bid for county insurance to Employees Casualty Company of Austin among three bidders. The Austin firm bid 11294, Southwest Insurance Association 15276, and Camp Insurance of Cameron 14640. The policy covers workers compensation general liability and auto liability.
Texas motorists will receive new registration applications by mail as reflective validation stickers replace metal plates on 5 year plates. A 1978 start to year round registration follows, with monthly issuance and same sticker for the life of the vehicle.
A hospital fund opened at First National Bank in Cameron to aid Richard Ricky Hairston 24 a Cameron native seriously injured in an IH 35 collision near Temple. Hairston a Texas Highway Department surveyor suffered jaw fractures broken ribs and a leg. The southbound car driven by Nanette Lanthier 19 Belton allegedly lost control near Peppers Creek and struck Hairston in the construction zone.
Aluminum Company of America delays the lignite fired power station expansion at Rockdale Works citing high capital costs. The 360 megawatt facility will not more than double capacity as planned while upgrades proceed to mine deeper lignite with new draglines and conveyor systems. Equipment should arrive 1978 79 with 18 month assembly. About 100 workers at peak. current workforce remains about 295 at contracting firm Industrial Generating Company.
Korvatunturi Mountain near the Soviet border is cited as Santa’s traditional home in Lapland. Experts debate whether Father Christmas originates in Lapland or is imported, with sources noting Nordic mythology and the billy goat symbol. Lapp nomads and elves feature in legends, while geography makes Lapland an ideal, undisturbed setting for Santa and his reindeer.
The Milam County Junior Livestock Show is set for January 10 1976 at the nu Compress warehouse in Cameron with about 160 entries from 4 H clubs and FFA chapters. Entries must be in by 9 a.m. and judging begins at 9:30 a.m. A crossbred gift and crossbred heifer class are added. if entries are light they join breed classes. The 1975 hog sale raised 1505 dollars for youth. sale returns begin at 1 30 p.m. with buyers including Citizens National Bank Cameron Milam County Farm Bureau Cameron Livestock Auction and others. There is a fund drive for premiums and building expenses. raffle tickets go on sale December 30 for a butcher calf at one dollar.
Cameron’s United Way campaign has $7,250.44 in pledges and contributions toward a $10,000 goal. Contributions come from the business community and individuals. A door-to-door drive for individual donors is planned for February.
