Milam County elects Hon. William Gillis as judge without opposition

William Graham Gillis was elected County Judge of Milam County without opposition and began duties early this month. A Milam County native, he rose from teacher to County Superintendent, ran for State Senate in 1908, and graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1910 where he joined the Intercollegiate Debating Team. He practiced law with Henderson Kidd and Gillis before his election and is praised as a capable, honorable orator and judge. The article asserts his leadership will benefit the county.

Afternoon musicale features piano solo violin and vocalists

A refined program included a piano solo by Miss Annie McLane, violin by another performer, and solo songs by Mrs C D Lay and Miss Margaret Wallace. The hostess concluded the pleasant afternoon with a refreshment course.

Birthday Celebration for Miss Ethel Goldberg

Miss Ethel Goldberg celebrated her ninth birthday Saturday afternoon at her parents home, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Goldberg. The house was decorated with ferns and plants. Guests enjoyed games with two prizes a kewpie and a candy basket. Cocoa cake fruit nuts and candy were served.

The Herald urges contestants to attend in Cameron on Saturday to review standings at 11 o clock and close the contest at a specified hour. Subscriptions earn 10 000 votes per five dollars with a five year subscription possibly influencing the outcome. Elder Cameron resident Mr. Paden celebrated octogenarian status

Mr. Paden, one of Cameron’s oldest and best loved citizens, is in his eighty fifth year. He arrived in Cameron in 1878 when it was a village. Despite many years, he remains hale and hearty and the Herald wishes him many pleasant years ahead.

Mr. L. H. Krough, Buick agent, leases rear Cameron State Bank quarters and shows Buick six cylinder roadsters and touring cars along with a Dodge model. He reports several recent sales of both makes and invites the public to view the displays.

Cameron and Rockdale Pri Day Boys and Girls Matchup

The Rockdale High girls lost to Cameron High 12 to 15 on their home ground in a two innings game. Mary McLerran scored 12. In the boys game Cameron defeated Rockdale with Luke Davis scoring 23 and Geo Childress contributing. Longmire 16 and Stevens 14 led Rockdale, and the match ended with an undecided Cameron victory.

Lutheran Services Sunday Schedule in Cameron and Pettibone
