Tax Credits Cut Suspend Investment Tax Credit Details
Texas A M University expert James J Mallett outlines two suspensions affecting farmers ranchers and self employed individuals The first suspends the 7 percent investment tax credit on machinery and certain real property for investments over 27009 made between October 10 1966 and December 31 1967 Taxpayers can still claim the credit for investments purchased earlier in the year or before the suspension and may choose to allocate up to 20000 in investments during the suspension period to qualify for the credit The carryover for unused credit extends from five to seven years while the two year carry back remains unchanged A second suspension bars rapid depreciation rates on buildings costing 50000 or more except for buildings begun before October 10 1966 or under contracts in effect on October 9 1966
