Offshore oil fields off Africa May Rival Gulf of Mexico
Scientists say potential oil and gas deposits lie off southern Africa from Cape Town to the Congo River mouth. Atlantis cruises found a delta shelf and salt dome field off Angola, with sediment ages 30 to 130 million years, and depths from 300 to 12 000 feet.

Most Texas Birds Protected By Laws
Texas lists birds in three categories game nongame and unprotected with only three birds allowed to be shot at any time English sparrows starlings and feral pigeons may be killed and their nests destroyed. Federal rules protect hundreds including song birds raptors and shore birds. In 1972 a treaty added 32 migratory nongame families to protections while certain previously huntable birds like crows and cowbirds became contentious. Violating protections can bring fines up to 500 dollars.
