J. B. Lane Escapes U S Marshal on Train

J B Lane escaped Monday from two U S Marshals as he jumped from a passenger train near Pana Illinois while being returned to San Antonio for sentencing on a federal auto theft charge. He reportedly smashed a window and leaped as the train sped away. Lane had pleaded guilty in South Bend Indiana to stealing a car in Chicago on July 25 1941 and driving it to Milano.

Sixteen Lettermen Committee Named For Football Award

The Cameron Rotary Club sponsors sweaters for Yee High 1941 football lettermen. A committee of Fred Blake Sam Kestenbaum Henry Lieb man Stanley Swift John Hays Gordon Baskin and Mose Cox will receive contributions for the fund. Death of Edgar L. Tucker in Austin and Cameron funeral

Edgar L. Tucker aged 60 died at 7 30 a m Monday in Austin. He was born in Cameron in February 1881 and lived there most of his life with his late father J M Tucker in business. Surviving are his wife Ollie Powers a daughter Frances Tucker Arms and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held December 2 1941 from Coleman Funeral Chapel in Cameron with Odd Fellows Knights of Pythias and Masonic Lodge directing the rites. A male quartet sang In The Garden at the service.

Czech Benefit Supper at Marak a Big Success

The Czech benefit supper at Marak church and school on Sunday November 23rd drew a large Cameron crowd despite bad weather. The event raised a substantial sum for the Czech relief fund and added to Red Cross contributions for war zone aid. Milano youth J B Lane captured by FBI in South Bend

J B Lane a 17 year old Milano boy wanted for auto theft and a two time escapee from Gatesville Reform School was arrested in South Bend Indiana by FBI agents and held for fingerprinting. He faces federal charges under the National Automobile Theft Act and the Fugitive Act with trial to be in San Antonio. An auto believed stolen by Lane was found with its motor running near Milano.

Football coach Frank Kimbrough of Bayley University will deliver the keynote at the Cameron football banquet. Three Cameron Boys Held in Locker Room Robbery

Three Cameron boys Neal Bailey 16 Harold Stanislaw 14 and Wesley Emmons 10 were under arrest for burglarizing high school gym locker rooms during the Cameron Marlin football game. Bailey and Stanislaw were arrested by Deputy Sheriff Carl Black while Emmons was taken into custody Friday. They admitted the burglary to Criminal District Attorney Morrison. recovered items included 2.80 one class ring one gold ring and a hat with about 7.50 left in the lockers. Sheriff White noted the police are still seeking other stolen articles and there is no protection for locked items in the gym. The incident marks a second burglary during football games.

Boy Here is Held In Car Theft Case

LeRoy Lawrence was arrested Friday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Carl Black and charged with theft of an automobile. The stolen car, owned by Bill Whitaker, disappeared from near the Peter Produce Company on Monday night November 10 and was found near Marlow in a ditch, partially wrecked.

Mrs Ada Devers aged former Cameron resident died Monday at her sister’s home in San Marcos. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 30 p m at Marek Burns Chapel with J W Haygood officiating. Santa Parane Plans Parade and Tree Lighting Announced

Cameron Chamber of Commerce announces preparations for a Christmas parade and Tree Party. The Yule tree will be placed on the Court House lawn, lights on Friday December 5, with Santa arriving December 12 at 2 p.m. He will ride Cameron’s fire truck led by the You High Band.
