McMillion Wins Buckholts Runoff For Precinct 1 Commissioner

McMillion of Buckholts is elected Commissioner of Precinct 1 in the runoff held Saturday August 22, defeating Walter Fuchs by 205 votes. Fuchs had served two terms and carried two boxes to McMillion’s six, with McMillion winning by large margins in Buckholts and a 101 vote hometown advantage. The results table follows.

James re nominated in run off for 65th District Representative

The candidate Mr James was renominated in the run off primary on August 22 by a margin of 1050 votes over Henry G Lehman of Giddings. Total votes surpassed 10,300 with James at 5688 and Lehman at 4638. Other figures list Milam Lee Burleson James 2913 1085 1690 Lehman 1582 1752 1304.

Milam County wraps up second primary results

Complete returns from the second Milam County primary show B M McMillion defeating Walter Fuchs for Precinct 1 commissioner. Ernest O Thompson led statewide Railroad Commissioner votes, with Jesse James re elected for the 65th District, while J B McDonald and George B Terrer vied in the other precinct.

Rape Charge Follows Attack on Cameron Girl

Harrell Allen of Buckholts faces a rape charge after an attack on a Cameron girl following a Buckholts dance. He was arrested twice, first on assault with intent to rape, then re-arrested after a physician exam. Bond of 1000 was posted on the first arrest. This marks a second rape case in the county in recent months.

Milam County Plans Public Health Nursing Continuation

Milam County citizens are assured of continued Public Health Nursing in 1937. County Public Health Board Chairman lauds Miss Fuleord’s work over ten months since arriving last fall, noting 496 home visits and 64 demonstrations, with 2507 school children examined. The report highlights school defects identified and parental follow up with physicians, 21 organizations contacted, and health and sanitation talks by Home Demonstration Clubs.

Gov James V Allred named B P Matocha active Secretary of State in Cameron. D L Harp could not qualify due to absence from the state. Matocha becomes the third Secretary in the Allred administration succeeding R B Stanford who moved to a district judgeship in Waco.

Joe Gerick Leads Kamenicky Gin Plant Ad Hall This Year

Joe Gerick Jr a prominent Ad Hall citizen has become manager of the Anna Kamenicky Gin in Pettibone. He plans new ginning machinery to serve cotton farmers with better turnout. Three new cleaning plants will improve prices for cotton. The gin cooperates with the U S government to promote farmer education and better cotton quality. Six experienced gin operators are employed.

Theft of Cow From Farm Leads to Arrest

Deputy Dan Gann recovered a stolen cow from the Wallace Moody farm near Cameron. Flemy Steele of Lott, released on 500 bond, is charged with the theft. The cow was found in a pasture southwest of Belton and returned to Moody before the owner knew it was missing. Also, Mrs. B. J. Baskin returned home from a lengthy Mississippi visit.
