The drivers license office in Cameron courthouse will be closed for the next two Wednesdays August 27 and September 3. Residents needing license renewals or other license department business are advised to go to Rockdale on Tuesday or Wednesday or to Temple on Monday through Friday.

Georgetown officials warn electricity prices may rise next month as LCRA plans to nearly double the fuel adjustment on bills. The impact could push October bills above the base rate by over 60 percent for local customers. State Public Safety Director Wilson E Speir warned Labor Day weekend traffic in Texas could kill 42 people from 6 p m Friday August 29 to midnight Monday September 1, down from 51 last year. He urged drivers to slow down cooperate with police and avoid drunk driving as extra DPS troopers and local officers patrol statewide. The effort includes the Operation Motorcide program and media outreach.
Five Texas counties Falls Harris Medina Tom Green and Victoria report anthrax cases confirmed by the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory at Texas A&M University. Dr Sippel urges yearly vaccination in affected and past outbreak areas and notes cases are about normal while Dr Young calls for caution and vaccination where spores exist.
