Bill Signed Grants Brazos Authority Dams Ownership
A federal bill signed by President Eisenhower grants the Brazos River authority permanent title to all dams it builds. The measure, praised by Rep. Bob Poage, enables immediate construction of new dams between Morris Shepherd and Whitney, expanding river management for Texas and Milam County. Ted Ford, Milam County farmer, received a $25 Farm Bureau prize for the first bale of lint cotton ginned in Rosebud, weighing 503 pounds with 1050 pounds of seed. The bale was produced July 20 at Wolf and Son Gin, with lint selling at 36 cents per pound and seed at $85 per ton. Wolf and Son ginned the bale free and bought the seed. The Empire cotton bale yielded a $100 Rosebud Chamber bonus.
