First Norther Brings Temporary Relief

A cold air mass moved into Louisiana and central Texas cooling a region that hit 102 degrees in Cameron. Overnight a light shower occurred and a gentle north wind rose to about 10 mph. Relief is temporary as heat returns, with cooler weather expected over the next few weeks and no rain in sight.

Funeral set for Mrs Lillie Klepka near Yarrellton

The body of 50 year old Mrs. Lillie Klepka was found in a tank near her home after she was reported missing. An inquest by Justice of Peace B G Rice concluded she died several hours earlier, with despondency suspected. Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at North Elm Cemetery, with burial at Marek-Burns Funeral Home. Survived by husband and several children.

George Goodwin Jr. Buried in Home City with Full Honors

Pfc. George Goodwin Jr., killed in action in France on December 24, 1944, was buried in his home city on Thursday August 5 with services from First Baptist Church. He received full military honors from the American Legion aided by Camp Hood firing squad. Born April 25, 1922 near Cameron he enlisted January 4 1943, trained at Camp Hahn California and in Los Angeles. He served overseas August 1 1944 and was wounded September 29 in France before being sent to England for surgery and awards including the Purple Heart and three bronze stars.

Isbell Funeral Planned in Decatur Tuesday

Rev. K. R. Isbell former pastor of the First Methodist Cameron died in Gainesville Sunday August 15. His funeral is set for Decatur Tuesday with arrival of the body from Gainesville and interment later that day. He previously served the local church in 1944 and 1945.

Be ard indicted for murder in early morning grand jury

Lonnie Beard of Conoley near Thorndale was indicted by the grand jury here on two counts of murder with malice afterthought. The case stems from Beard shooting his son in law Noel D. Martin July 13 near the Beard home after a quarrel during a visit to Thorndale. Martin died at a Taylor hospital soon after.

Milam County Democrats vow to support Harry S. Truman for President. At the July 31 county convention a resolution bound state convention delegates to vote for the party nominees and oppose substituting other nominees. Mother Held for Murder After Beating Four Year Old

Mrs. Peggy Mae Pappas an expectant mother is charged with murder in the death of her four year old son Larry. Police say she admitted beating him with an electric iron cord causing convulsions and a head bump in a tourist cabin fight from Washington D C to Dallas last July. George Pappas found the body and took Larry to Parkland Hospital where he died. The city health physician confirmed the pregnancy and said she appeared sane.

Funeral Services Set for Rockdale Resident E H Bathorn

E H Dutch Bathorn of Rockdale and former Cameron citizen died Friday evening at St Edwards hospital in Cameron after several days of illness. Services will be at 4 30 p m Saturday at Phillips Lucky Funeral Home Rockdale with Rev Frank Tulloch officiating and Oak Lawn Cemetery interment. He had been a traveling salesman and earlier owned a cafe and was once involved with Skeezix with brother in law E C Cammer. Surviving are his wife former Cameron resident Cora Cammer, a son Edward Balhorn, a brother William Balhorn, and two grandchildren. He was a former Cameron Fruit Company salesman and active in local business affairs.

Lonnie Beard Murder Trial Set For September 7

Lonnie Beard faces murder charges in the shotgun slaying of his son in law Noel D. Martin last July. The trial is set for Tuesday September 7 near Conoley at the Beard farm home. Labor Day falls on September 6.
