Dove Prospects Improve Despite Dove Population Dip
Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist Ted L Clark says the mourning dove breeding population is down 12 percent but hunters should still find abundant birds when the North Zone season opens September 1 through October 30. Milam County lies in the North Zone and Clark notes the decline is significant yet manageable with good recent rains and food availability. A fall census may show a slight rebound if breeding conditions remain favorable.
