City hopes to revitalize areas by clearing unsightly sites and creating parks or new developments, urging swift action to curb decades of neglect. An ice cream social kicked off the Cameron Booster Club year with VHS athletes in attendance.

Harrelson testified in his murder trial at Brownsville denying he killed Sam Degelia Jr. of Hearne on July 6, 1968 near a vacant pump house southwest of McAllen. He answered no when asked by defense attorney Percy Foreman if he shot Degelia.

The Waco McLennan County Health and Mental Retardation Center introduces Changes, a county drug abuse program with a residential drug-free living center and methadone treatment for heroin addiction. It is planned to open around September 1 and serves about 600 hard core heroin addicts in Waco.
Plans are underway for a king sized stag party honoring Congressmen Bob Poage of Waco and Jake Pickle of Austin. The event will be at Wilson Foxs Riverside Ranch near Taylor on Thursday night August 23 starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $4.50.
Oren M. Cleveland III of Galveston and Stanley Stone of Waco faced forgery charges in a Justice of the Peace Court for forging doctor prescriptions and having them filled at local drugstores. Cleveland posted bond while Stone remained jailed. Bernay Dusek of Dusek's Pharmacy alerted authorities after following a suspicious car, leading to a Caldwell arrest. prescriptions were filled at Schiller's Pharmacy.
The Cameron school board heard progress on renovations, opened bids on bread milk and gas, and discussed broadcasting local athletic events on a Georgetown radio station. School schedule tightens to 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. litter control measures on 12th Street proposed. tank tops allowed at principals’ discretion. Five teachers up for airing. Nelson Mueller named Milam County Red Cross Chapter Chairman and multi-media First Aid instructor.
A Branchville man, Albert Blue Jr., is in satisfactory condition in a Temple hospital after a gunshot wound to the side from a 12 gauge shotgun Thursday afternoon near Branchville. Sheriff Carl Black said Doris Blue was arraigned in Cameron and released on her own recognizance. No charges have been filed.
Friends of the Cameron Library announce Membership Week August 20 to 24 with an open house August 20 from 3 to 5 p m. Memberships range from 1 to 25 dollars and include honorary supporting sustaining and student categories. A book sale and art exhibit run August 20 through September 27 alongside the drive. The 11th annual Taylor Jaycee trail ride will be August 15 with events at Georgetown rodeo grounds and Rowe Valley on the San Gabriel River.
