University appropriation bill approved by Senate committee
Austin Texas August 6 Senate Finance Committee unanimously approves every item of the University appropriation carried forward from the first called session and vetoed by Governor Ferguson. The bill provides 818 453 for year one and 808 953 for year two with 98755 yearly for the Medical Department.

U-Boat Report Sparks Harbor Lockdown Near Coast
A sighting near trans Atlantic lanes prompted War Department to close the harbor mouth gate until 6 this morning. An inbound steamer reported seeing a submarine periscope on Saturday night and fired three shots. No further sighting occurred as the vessel reached port. Some passengers claimed a second sighting eighteen miles offshore yesterday.

A. H. Cuman Killed Near Sand Grove
A. H. Cuman aged 46 and single was killed Friday near Sand Grove ten miles northeast of Rockdale Texas. Will Booker 28 an employee of Cuman was arrested at Odem Texas and jailed at Cameron Sunday night. Cuman was a farmer and charcoal burner.
