Japan appeared ready on Thursday to march on Thailand defying warnings from the United States and Great Britain. Troop movements toward attack points signaled intent, with rumors and official denials shaping the day’s volatile Far East outlook.

Cobb who had been arrested in the Sharpe Jewelry Store robbery is under murder sentence and was last seen abandoning one car and taking another on the Houston highway toward Milam County. No trace of him had been found by Thursday.
Texas Rangers completed a multi day operation in Milam County focusing on cattle trucks. Deputy Sheriff LeRoy Massengale reported Rangers will halt all cattle in transit on highways until drivers show bills of sale. The measure aims to curb cattle thefts statewide.
August 16 is the final date for representatives to file for the ballot as reported by Judge Jeff T. Kemp. Four candidates had already filed, and once filings are complete the ballot will be ordered printed.
Mrs Carolina Bruder dies Wednesday morning at 3 80 at her daughter’s home near Burlington. Born in Germany in 1870 she came to the United States in early childhood. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 30 pm from the Lutheran church in Burlington with Rev Kalkbrenner. Burial in Burlington cemetery directed by Green Funeral Home.
Re elected Mr Slavik widely known community leader in the RVOS was chosen for a four year term as secretary. He received no opposition and was honored for years of service at the West convention. He operates the office from his farm home in Marax with a substantial pay increase. F A Marek of Cameron was reelected vice president to succeed himself after long service and prior presidency.
Harvest of the 1941 crop began with an 515 pound bale ginned at the Weems Gin in Cameron by John A. Smith Jr. The bale arrived 6 25 and was ready for market within 18 minutes. Farmers face boll worm danger and leaf worm appears amid dry hot weather lowering prospects.

Joe Orsag, longtime Griffifth Barber Shop employee, leaves to join Palace Barber Shop owned by Charles F Swift. He has barbering experience here for years and many friends will be interested in his new employment.
Chas. C. Smith Sr of Cameron announces candidacy in the August 30, 2041 Special Election to fill the Texas Legislature vacancy caused by Reese Turner. He pledges to serve Milam County in Austin with devoted effort to county issues, whether in or out of session.
Lonzo Colbert pleaded guilty to an axe attack on his mother in law in February in County Court and received 120 days in jail with taxpayers funding his confinement. Other county court actions included a $25 fine for Buck Perez and fines for Jake Thomas for displaying a public safety item.
Frank Slavik announced his candidacy for the Texas House of Representatives in a special election set for August 30 1941 called by Gov O Daniel to fill the Reese Turner vacancy. He listed farming as his occupation and highlighted a past record in St Louis as hospital attendant street car conductor and post office clerk. He said he has no formal platform and plans to emphasize ambition over a written program. He is married with two children and owns the Elm Ridge farm on Old Waco road.

Milam Theatre shows postponed by fire. Cameron Theatre will host Milam programs Saturdays with same 20 cent matinee and evening prices and 10 cents for children. Repairs planned. Milam to resume once fixed. Milam, originally New Hefley, was Cameron’s first talkie theatre.
Mr and Mrs Alvin Roznos visited Miss Myrtle Roznos in San Antonio where she accepted a position a few months ago They all returned home late Monday Henry Sapp of Itasca visited his mother over the weekend
A fire of undetermined origin at 3 a m destroyed the Milam Theatre and damaged nearby buildings. Owner Stanley Swift returned after sunrise and said the theater would be rebuilt. Firefighters confined damage to the theatre. several adjacent establishments also suffered damage. Patrons to attend Cameron Theatre on Saturdays as replacements with no price change.
Dick Young of Jones Prairie was elected Assistant Coach by the School Board Tuesday night to replace R P Bennett who moved to Brownsville. The decision was reported by Drayton McLane, a board member, who praised the selection. Young, a former Thrall coach and Centenary College graduate, played center on the 1952 undefeated team under Homer Norton now at Texas A and M, and Norton called him the best center he ever coached.
