Fire marshal warns against flamable cleaners after burns

Cameron resident Basilio Salazar and his 14 month old daughter suffered serious burns after a plastic bucket of cleaning fluid flashed into flames while Salazar cleaned his hands at home. The blaze, caused by a water heater flame, was contained with minor property damage. Salazar and Elisabet were treated at St Edward and Temple hospital.

Fire in residence causes fatal gas leak explosion

A past decade fire started by a gas leak in a home exploded decimating the house and killing one person. The author notes fumes and fires, stressing real life harm versus on screen dramatization and the need for concern when gas and flames meet.

Yee High Booster Club Ice Cream Supper Change

The annual Booster Club ice cream supper honoring 1976 Yee High football players is set for 7 p.m. Thursday August 5. Due to conflicting activities, the venue moved from Methodist Fellowship Hall to the Homemaking Building. Coach Ed Cauley will introduce his staff and outline the upcoming season.

Cameron Fire Department members attend Texas fire training

Five Cameron volunteers John A. Schmidt John David Thompson Robert Grimes John W. Hairston and Ed A. Bigbee city fire marshal among 2000 firemen at the 47th annual fire training school on the Texas A&M campus July 25 30. The event promotes fire prevention and faster suppression. The department seeks citizen help to remove debris junk weeds and hazards and will survey all properties citywide under Fire Chief Felix Matula. Citizens may request a survey by calling 697 2121.

Ambulance Service Elects Temporary Officers

The Cameron Volunteer Ambulance Service met August 1 at the Cameron Chamber offices and elected Monroe Fuchs as president Charles Strode as vice president and treasurer and Kay Glaser as secretary A constitution and bylaws were discussed for a September vote A representative from Electron Radio Receivers demonstrated monitors for volunteers and applications were invited from interested participants Emergency Care Attendant classes begin August 9 at Yee High Homemaking Building.

Two Burn Victims In Stable Condition In Cameron Manors Burn

Two Cameron residents remained stable following a vapor flash from a flammable liquid near a water heater. Basilio Salazar and his 14 month old daughter Elisabet were hospitalized after injuries from the incident that started when cleaning fluid ignited, with Salazar in critical but stable condition in Galveston and Elisabet undergoing surgery.

Milam County Jail Open for Public Viewing Before Repairs

About 500 visitors toured Milam County jail Sunday August 1 as it opened to the public prior to repairs. Miss Mary Belle Batte says the Milam County Historical Committee seeks donations of display cases to house artifacts and antiques for the museum with contact details for Miss Batte and Miss Ada Margaret Smith.

Cameronite Kenneth Martin Jr. shot dead near Farm Road 486

Kenneth Martin Jr. 30 of 602 Kemp was found dead in his pickup by the river bridge on Farm Road 486 near the Oak Club. Justice of the Peace Jess Brock ruled the death a gunshot wound to the right temple with a .32 caliber pistol. The Oak Club had seen the pickup since 9 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral arrangements were pending at Marek Burns Laywell Funeral Home.

Fire Destroys Storage Area at B. L. Franke Home

Two alarm fire responded by Cameron Volunteer Fire Department at 6 24 p m Tuesday evening at the B L Franke residence in Salem community. Fire marshal Edwin A Bigbee said the blaze began from an electrical short and was confined to a storage area near the carport with damage to the storage area and smoke damage to the main house. The quick action of the department prevented further destruction of the home.

G Folk Dancers to Perform at Texas Folklife Festival

The Cameron German Folk Dancers, a sixteen member group in native costumes, will perform four times Saturday August 7 and two times Sunday August 8 during the fifth annual Texas Folklife Festival August 5-8 at the Institute of Texas Cultures in San Antonio. Members include Mr and Mrs Bruce Crook and others. This marks their fifth invitation to the festival.
