Marshal Smith Breaks Up Milam County Cotton Pickers Union
City Marshal Gene Smith intervened when about 150 workers and leaders gathered at the Milam County court house Friday night to form a cotton pickers union. He learned the plan sought a price of $1 per hundred pounds and ordered the group to disband, declaring no union would be allowed. Cotton pickers currently earn 60 to 75 cents per hundred.

Woman held after shooting in Rockdale farm home
Mrs Ina Catchings of Rockdale is jailed on $2,500 bond charged with assault with intent to murder her son in law Chon Esparza 20 of the Ernest Foster farm two miles from Rockdale. Esparza survived gunshot wounds to the neck and stomach. Mrs Catchings confessed to District Attorney Emory B Camp Tuesday morning. The couple's one year old son and Goldie Lee Catchings are involved. Mrs Catchings is about 53.

Theory of Murder Advanced in Case
Austin authorities reported the body found in an alley near Cameron Herald plant may not be embalmed yet. A young woman aged 18 to 20, with the head severed and left arm missing, was found wedged by a tree and wall. Investigators noted crude embalming, possible morgue retrieval, and possible distant origin with leaves and debris suggesting Cameron origin. The case involves DA Emory Camp and Ranger M. T.
