Weed Problem In Grain Harvest Warns Growers
County agent notes weed pressure in grain sorghum could raise harvest losses. Henry O Neal of Texas A&M urges slower cutting speeds and careful cleaning of the combine to reduce Johnson grass and other weeds. Operators should inspect grates for honeydew and adjust settings to minimize seed losses, with high moisture weeds needing extra care. The gleaned seed should be harvested first, leaving weedier areas for later. A separate note covers the 1988 Beef Cattle Short Course at Texas A&M University with topics on breed associations breeding, pasture management, and artificial insemination.
