Dossett Family Plans Move to Shreveport Louisiana

Mr and Mrs Stanton Dossett and their children will leave Cameron for a new home in Shreveport Louisiana. Stanton Dossett will join others in a major manufacturing enterprise in that city. Their daughter Dee attends school here while sons Stanton and Brown are not yet in school. The Dossett family is linked to Texas development and Stanton’s father A J Dossett was a pioneer in the cotton compress industry.

Two Deaths Strike Sherman Family in One Day

Mrs. W. M. Gough age 82 of Sherman died Sunday at her daughter Miss Lula Gough in Stephenville. Within two hours son Arch Gough 52 of Sherman died. Double funeral at First Baptist Church Sherman. Interment in Sherman. Surviving children include Mrs. Will Beal Cameron Miss Gough Stephen ville Mrs. Charlie Hefley Oklahoma A. B. Gough Wichita Falls Jess Gough McAllister Okla and W D Gough Sherman Arch Gough survived by wife and one daughter. Arch worked in transfer business at Sherman.

Mortuary College Graduate Earns Life Scholarship

Graduates from Landig College of Mortuary Science in Houston include Mr. Green who received a life scholarship granting access to all post graduate courses. He was also voted onto the student council.

Legion Meeting Set for May 4 in Cameron Hut

Adjutant Streetman of the American Legion in Cameron urges all members to attend the regular meeting Tuesday night at 7 30 p m at the hut in the park. Important matters will be discussed and the District Convention in Rockdale on June 5 and 6 will be attended by the local post in large numbers.

Knights of Columbus Initiation Slated in Cameron

W J Parma announced initiation ceremonies by the Knights of Columbus in Cameron on Sunday May 2. First and second degrees will be conferred locally, with third degrees by a team from Austin. Forenoon demonstrations precede the 1 39 pm afternoon session and a 7 pm members banquet at St Monica's grounds.

J C Penny to Open New Cameron Department Store

The J C Penney Company plans to lease the southwest corner of Main and Central in Cameron to open a modern department store. The two story building will feature a large balcony, 30 foot frontage, and 95 foot depth with extensive remodeling to create one of the state’s finest stores. Plans for interior treatment are underway.

Southern Pacific Company Sued Twice for Damages

Two damage suits filed in Milam County District Court name Southern Pacific Bay Company as defendant. J. L. McRea seeks 7400 dollars plus costs after a 1936 assault and railroad injury near Hicks crossing left him crippled. T. O. Kinsey seeks 15009 dollars with costs after a 1935 auto train collision near Cameron. Both cases set for Monday, May 3.

Confederate Graves Decorated On Decoration Day

Annual Decoration Day observance for Confederate Veterans held Sunday under the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Program included prayers, introductions, roll calls by soldier name, readings by Mary Frances White and Zora Clark Wilkerson, and placing of flowers at Oak Hill and Old Cemeteries in Cameron Texas.

Dairy Day Plans Completed Here in Cameron

Dairy Day in Cameron will be held Saturday May 8 with F E Woodruff as chairman. The event features open house at the Kraft Phoenix Cheese plant, dairy cattle judging at 10 a m by Future Farmers Cameron chapter, a 1 15 street parade led by the Cameron band, and awards and speeches from 1 30 to 3 p m with a speaker supplied by A M College.

Demonstration on Canning Fruit in Glass at Yee High

Miss Gladys Kimbrough will lead a demonstration on Canning of Fruit in Glass with Home Demonstration Agents Dorothy Porter and Imogene LaGrone. The session runs Saturday from 9 30 to 11 30 in Yee High School Foods Laboratory. All women interested in canning are invited.

Miss Jeff Lewis Buried in Cameron

Jefferson Davis Lewis 4 lifelong Cameron resident and daughter of a pioneer family died in a local hospital at 3 a m Monday April 26 1937 after two weeks of influenza followed by pneumonia She was taken from her sister Mrs Lola Hearrells home to the hospital where a week long battle to save her life was waged She was born in Cameron to Captain and Mrs A J Lewis and left a large place in the hearts of the community.

Funeral for Mrs. T. P. Gunnels at Liberty

Funeral services were held for Mrs. T. P. Gunnels 37 of Hanover at Liberty church with burial in Liberty Cemetery. Rev. J. Coy Williams led the service. She died Thursday night at her Hanover home after marriage to J. P. Gunnels. she was formerly Miss Alice Jones and leaves husband and four children.

Moseley Completes 10 Years Service With Power Co

Karl Moseley a service man for Texas Power and Light Company received a 10 year service award announced on April 18 1987. The citation came in a letter from John W Carpenter president of the Texas Power and Light Company praising Moseley for his long service.

Mrs Earl Colburn Buried Here Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs Earl Colburn 45 were held at a daughter’s home with Rev J Coy Williams officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery. Survived by husband Earl Colburn two daughters Mrs Raymond and Helen Colburn and two brothers Leonard Norris and D T Norris. Pallbearers were foremen on the farms of R L Butte.

John Meeks will go on trial in Cameron District Court on Monday May 10 1937 for murder in a case stemming from a gun battle that left Chas Kirk dead and Meeks wounded in the leg.

Salary Bill Threatens Milam County Finances

Since Texas abolished the fee system counties must fund salaries from general funds. Milam county spent 18000 last year to pay salaries formerly covered by fees. At 6 percent interest this would grow to 242000 in ten years, a burden for taxpayers and a disaster for smaller counties, says County Auditor C. R. Isaacs who fears surplus buildup is unlikely.
