Sales Tax Rebate Adds City Funds

Cameron was one of 516 cities and towns receiving sales tax rebates last week for April city sales tax rebates. Cameron got $2,238.75, Lott $1,957.22, Rockdale $1,610.30, Rosebud $912.06. Rogers and Buckholts received none. Comptroller Bob Bullock said $87.4 million has been remitted to 845 municipalities so far this year, with city and state collections rising beyond inflation and 1975 city sales tax at $263.9 million, up 9.8 percent from 1974. He projects two more years without a tax increase if trends continue.

Crossroads Grain Co to Build Milam County Facility

Milam County begins construction on a new grain handling facility at the Highway 77 north FM 485 intersection. The $120000 project by Crossroads Grain Co Inc will be led by Kenneth Marek and Cruz Perez with completion expected June 15 to align with the wheat harvest. The plant will store up to 2,000,000 pounds and start contracting new crop grain on May 1.

Mall Movies To Feature Disney Cartoons on Friday

Cameron Area Chamber of Commerce trade development committee will show 57 minutes of Disney cartoons on the Cameron mall Friday evening April 30 at dark. Five cartoons lasting almost an hour will include Ben and Me about Ben Franklin. Businesses will be open during the evening with a concession trailer on site starting at 6 p.m. The event aims to aid shoppers with after hours access and may be repeated this year.

Absentee Ballots Cast for May Primaries

County clerk reports 44 absentee ballots cast for the May 1 Democratic and Republican primaries. Democratic voters will choose three delegates to the National Presidential nominating convention and four delegates for two candidates. Voters cannot split their primary votes.
