Rates listed for subscription and ads: two dollars in advance, two dollars fifty cents after delay, four dollars if not prepaid. Advertisements priced by square the first run seventy two cents, subsequent insertions thirty seven and a half cents. Single, semi monthly, monthly and quarterly ads charged the same as a single insertion. Readers note orders must mark number of insertions to stop automatically.
A Mexican caravan leader with a belt of gold is robbed by a bold gambler in a dramatic scene. The Mexican trader confronts the thief, frees the captive, and the attacker flees as the caravan returns to safety. Also recounted is a New York wedding prank, a Philadelphia con that ends with a counterfeit watch swindle, and a brief obituary note on Marquis of Anglesea highlighting his long military career and public life.
A detailed 1852 report describes an upward electrical discharge striking a Stillwater Minnesota building. The event sent bricks and plaster outward, shattered windows inward, and traced a path from ground to chimney top. The narrative notes glass fractures, window sashes forced upward, and bricks ejected as the electric force moved upward through the room. Also included is a Connecticut Senate vote declaring opposition to Nebraska slavery expansion and readiness to cooperate with states on the crisis.
The packet Pike, en route from Louisville to St Louis, sinks after striking a snag near shore. About 180 aboard, passengers and crew perish or are lost, with reports of heroism and failures in lifeboat readiness. The vessel belongs to the Louisville and St Louis Packet Line and was insured for 16,000 dollars.

It recounts Josephine and Hortense’s French links, a ship attacked by corsairs, and Miss S being carried to Constantinople where she became a royal concubine, making Abdel Medjid and Mahmoud descendants of American origin.

The text argues that anti-slavery sentiment in the North remains fierce and unyielding. It claims the temporary peace after the Civil War was illusory, with abolitionist movements rearming and rallying with renewed vigor, intent on renewed national upheaval.
