Ad Rates and Payment Terms Listed in Notice

Volume 14 Toro Dollars if paid in advance Two Dollars on Fifty Cents if payment be delayed three months and Three Dollars if not paid till expiration. Advertisements will be inserted at resale. Towing rates: For one square under ten lines seventy five cents per month. for the month thirty seven and a half cents for each subsequent insertion. Single insertion one dollar per square. Semi monthly and quarterly ads charged at the same rate as a single insertion. The tenth insertion should be noted on the margin or it will be published until entered and charged accordingly.

Quaker Lady of Murray Hill Delays Howe in Revolutionary Rescue

A dramatic 18th century vignette recounts Mrs. Murray, a Quakeress on Murray Hill, sheltering wounded Continental Ensign Dial and delaying Sir William Howe. Her hospitality allowed Union forces to slip away, likely saving about three thousand American troops and altering the city’s escape route and prospects in the New York theater of the Revolution.
