CCC Curtailment Reduces Camps to Prewar Low

The Civilian Conservation Corps will abandon nearly 250 camps on October 1 and cut enrolments to about 200 per camp. Director Fechner said the retrenchment follows budget limits and a completed work program, with more than 100000 vacancies to fill and about 90000 enrollees to be discharged.

Penn R R Suffers Worst Wreck In Years Near Maxwell Crossing

A freight derailment and fire on the Pennsylvania Railroad near Maxwell crossing two miles south of here halted traffic late Saturday night. About twenty cars left the rails in a northbound consist of 104 cars. Fire damaged three gasoline cars and two coal cars, with fire spread contained.
