Dominican capital devastated by hurricane disaster

A tropical hurricane tore through Santo Domingo destroying nearly all buildings and causing an estimated 800 deaths in the capital. President Trujillo led relief efforts as the army aided victims with Red Cross support from the United States, while communications and infrastructure were heavily disrupted.

General Henry T. Allen Dies After Sudden Heart Attack

Former American army of occupation commander in Germany, retired general Henry T. Allen, died of heart disease at Buena Vista Springs, Pennsylvania. Born 1859 in Sharpsburg, Kentucky, he graduated West Point in 1882 and held posts in Alaska Russia Germany Cuba the Philippines Mexico with Pershing. He later led American forces on the Rhine during the postwar period.
