Early English Angling Origins and Classic Texts
The origin of angling is obscure with Greek Roman and biblical allusions. It rose to general use in England around the Reformation. The first printed angling book was Winkin de Worde's Treatyse of Fysshinge in 1496, followed by Izaak Walton's influential work in 1653.
