Mellon reports large treasury surplus for 1929 year

Secretary Mellon announced a 1929 fiscal year surplus of 185,000,080 with debt reduction of 73,000,000. The surplus stemmed from strong March and June income taxes tied to stock profits, with further impact expected in fall payments. Hoover says study of tax cuts ongoing and may include earned income and corporate rate reductions.

Oklahoma City man named to federal farm board

Carl Williams of Oklahoma City appointed by President Hoover as a member of the federal farm board. He formerly led the American Cotton Growers' Exchange and serves as vice president of the National Council Farmers' Cooperative Marketing Association.
