The Rockfield Home Economic Club met Friday afternoon at Mrs. Baten Temple with Mrs. Irene Kendaraq as assistant hostess. Dora Foust read a poem to open. Mary ner performed a solo and Lorain Burke led project work. Bernice Mullendore and Hattie Temple assisted for 4 H. An Indian Ewasi was enjoyed at close.

John U Shanks a Life Of Faith Is Remembered

John U. Shanks 73 of Carrollton township died January 14 1932 after a life spent in Deer Creek Cass county Indiana He was born May 7 1858 near Deer Creek married Amy A McCloskey August 19 1883 and had five children He served as township trustee Bank president and elevator owner while living in Deer Creek Camden and Logansport He belonged to the United Brethren church Masonic lodge and Knights of Pythias He and his wife moved back to the road side home where he was seen as a friend to many Funeral services were conducted at the United Brethren church by Rev Dickson with Rev Zartman and Rev Rugenberger assisting Burial was in Center U B cemetery.

Two Camden Men Receive Honors

S A Wickard and Webb Robeson of Camden received the only two gold medals for agricultural achievements in Carroll County. The honors were awarded through projects coordinated with Purdue University and various organizations.

Bible Contest Inspires Jackson Township Youth

The young people of state churches sponsor a Bible Baseball contest with 104 questions. Participants aged fourteen to thirty may enter by contacting church young people's teachers to obtain materials. The drive urges all to join and showcase Jackson township's effort.

Camden Students Win County Spelling Contest Honors

The Camden county spelling contest held Tuesday in the school house awarded multiple honors. Winners included Doroty Myer and Margaret Britton in ninth grade, Margaret Trent and Teel in tenth grade, Lawrence Johnson and Margaret Payne in eleventh, and Joy Altman and Margaret Hunt in twelfth. Supt Bailey and Mrs Harold Baker announced results. judges were Vera Link, Mrs Ray Quinn, Jessie Landis, Effie Guicken and Arthur Ritchey. A large crowd attended with ribbon prizes for first and second places.

Invitational Tourney Draw Sets Burlington Clash Schedule

The Burlington invitational tournament drawing was held at Delphi for January 22 and 23. Three out of county teams Ervin Two West Middleton and Russiaville are entered. We list Friday matchups Burlington versus Deer Creek Adams Two versus Ervin Two. Cutler versus West Middleton Saturday morning Russiaville versus Rockfield Camden versus Carrollton. Season tickets are $1.00 and single sessions 40 cents, on sale Friday.

Indiana university aids Washington bicentennial effort

Indiana University extension division offers Carroll County schools and groups a range of Washington Bicentennial materials and services. Lectures by four IU professors, special lecture series, program papers, pamphlets, plays, libraries, courses, films, and lantern slides are available to celebrate George Washington with state aid from the Washington Bicentennial Commission.

Economics Club Met at Mrs Mills Home January Fourteenth

The Jackson Township Home Economics Club met at Mrs John Mills home with twenty five members and fourteen guests. The program included a laundering project by Mrs Joe Allen a talk on club work for boys and girls by Mrs Fred Case and a report by Mrs Alice Wilson on the 1931 treasurer's books. Members planned charity sewing with Mrs Clarence Lake and praised visitors from Rockfield and Burrows. The February meeting will be at Mrs Ollie Gardners.

Farm Bureau Drive A Real Success

Jackson Township Farm Bureau's membership drive closed with high attendance and optimism. Campaign manager Webb Robertson reports county standings show the township second highest as the year ends, with six fewer members than last year but expectations of record growth. Ninety eight percent of Camden business men joined as associates, double prior years, and a February meeting is planned with educational value and entertaining features.

Seventh grade contestants named for March spelling event

The seventh grade contestants for the Junior high spelling contest in March are Fern Miller and Roy Snipes. Miss Lucile Graves returned to school Wednesday. The Economics club served ninety three individuals last Wednesday. Sunshine girls plan another good deed next week. On January 8 the fifth and sixth grades in banking collected 1.43 dollars.
