Smithsonian studies ancient tree remains from Paleocene era

Newly found remains are stored at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington and studied by Dr. Rlow Brown of the United States Geological Survey. One specimen is an ancient driftwood deposit found near Washington Maryland, the other consists of sequoia cones from the Cannonball river region in North Dakota. The logs may be redwood and the trees date to about 120 million years ago.
