Donna Louise Calloway of Rossville marries Albert Paul Rice Jr. of Camden in a double ring ceremony at the home of Rev. Robert Sink on Christmas Eve. The couple, both employed by Brown Rubber Company of Lafayette, will reside there.
Pvt. Meredith M. Shaffer was inducted November 19, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison. He went to Fort Sill for boat training, then California, sailed from New York to Ireland and England, and now serves in the 3rd Field Artillery Observation Battalion in France. He locates enemy guns, adjusts our artillery, gathers intelligence and has helped capture prisoners and seize towns as Nazi forces are pushed back.
Purdue University president Edward C. Elliott will retire June 30 under the age rule. Elliott, 71, has led Purdue since 1922 after serving as University of Montana chancellor. Andrew Noreen 95 died here Friday night at his daughter's home, Mrs. Fred Case. Surviving are two other daughters, Jean and Mrs. Nathan Noreen of Lafayette, four grandchildren. A retired Lafayette cabinet maker, native of Sweden, he belonged to Mission Covenant church. Burial at Springvale cemetery. funeral at Mission Covenant church.

Pvt. Ben I Smith of Wichita Kansas receives the Combat Infantryman’s Badge for distinguished duty in France and Germany. He joined December 15 1943 trained at Camp Fannin Texas went overseas in June and prior to service owned part of J R B Tool Co. His wife Mary Maxine Smith lives at 631 North Topeka and is granddaughter of the late Mrs Alice Leslie.
The Church of Christ of Rockfield begins the year by calling Rev and Mrs G L Michael to pastorate. Rev Michael is a Johnson Bible College graduate from Kimberlain Heights Tennessee where he met his wife who will teach a Sunday school class. Ora F. Shirar reports Carroll County oversubscribed the 6th War Loan with $1 047 355 33 in total sales. Individual and corporate quotas were met as farmers and townships excelled, while armed forces subscriptions reached 6 000. The note thanks banks post offices and volunteers and urges continued bond purchases into 1945.

The Indiana Service Corporation, headed in Carroll County by Mr. Ralph Melin, was omitted from last week’s list of corporations subscribed to the 6th War Loan. A loyal group of workers has aided the War Finance Committee in this and prior drives, with five figure contributions to War Loans.
Miss Ruth Skiles and Marion Strong wed at Rossville on December 21 with Rev. Jacob Skiles officiating. They spent two weeks with relatives in Michigan before Mr. Strong returned to duty in Colorado. Mrs Strong returned to Camden where she works at Wee Dee Furniture Factory.
Announcement reports the marriage of Mrs. Jeanne Bailey of Delphi to Lieut. John Sibbitt Moyer U S N Coronado California. The ceremony was held in Tijuana Mexico on December 18 with Mrs. Moyer returning to Delphi before heading to Coronado for residence. Moyer is assigned to Fleet Schools U S Naval Repair Base San Diego California.
