Withholding Tax Applies To All Wages
The revised rates for withholding income tax from wages under the 1944 Act apply to all wages paid by employers on and after January 1, 1945. Wages earned in December but paid in January are taxed at the new rates. The average tax withheld remains similar, but may be higher or lower per individual. The 1944 W-2 forms must show wages paid in 1944 and tax withheld, excluding wages not actually paid in 1944.
