Obituary of George W. B. McDonald of San Diego
George W. B. McDonald Esq of San Diego California died at his residence on the sixth aged 66 from consumption. He formerly lived in Rockport and this village erecting the house now owned by John Berry. He left Camden for California in 1858 and last summer visited with his wife in good health. A lifelong public servant he helped move county offices to the current courthouse and served as Deputy Collector of Customs. A devout Methodist and Sunday School leader he also helped helm the Philharmonic Society and was remembered as a strong citizen and friend to many in the community. Our sympathies go to his bereaved widow and family.

Born November 25, 1816 in Grantham Illinois, he served as local preacher in the Methodist Church from 1842 and was ordained deacon in 1849 and elder in 1891. He ministered across Rockport Hope Cushing Knox Morris Vassalboro Winslow Unity China Montville, with Montville as his main field. He was beloved, faithful, and cheerful, enduring cancer with patience. He leaves a wife two sons and a daughter.
