Ways and Means approves tax freeze and future rate plan
The House Ways and Means Committee unanimously approved a bill to freeze social security taxes at 1 percent for employers and employees through 1949. It also endorsed a new schedule raising rates to 1.5 percent in 1950 through 1956 and to 2 percent from 1957 onward. The present-law automatic rise would be suspended.
