Albert White, Harvard Bazar general manager and lawyer, says business is much better as consumer confidence returns. He cites a shift in the American mind and a looming sales surge, with retailers ready to meet demand as the economy swings from dullness toward prosperity.
The Special Committee on Taxation proposes a definite progressive plan to cut city taxes with a basis for planning. It presents a city wide issue beyond personalities and calls on both younger and older voters to support candidates who will back the plan through its four year term.
Election Commissioner Dan Leahy declined the Cemetery Superintendent offer citing a wish to live in a specific historic residence. The item notes his prior ties to the cemetery and a recurring personal story about the Leahy landmark.
The Cambridge City Council meets briefly, raising debate on session frequency and lighting costs. Councillor Roche accuses the mayor of routine behavior and criticizes the one dollar expense for housing authority actions while a motion to appoint housing authority members passes with Lyons voting no.
