A volunteer group of more than 250 supporters leads a nationwide Red Cross drive starting Armistice Day and running through Thanksgiving to enroll members for the annual campaign.
The 1938 state election concluded with Democrats facing losses as Republicans and officials react. Dist Atty elect Robert F Bradford signals a firm, efficient approach to law enforcement. Councillor Frank Roche notes swift Governor's Council shifts while Eddie Donovan earns attention as a noted xylophonist.
A report notes Election Commissioner Clarence P. Kidder and Election Commission Chairman G Brendan Noonan with Secretary Harry Penniman in a hidden room. The scene included officials in shirtsleeves carrying a desk as observers watched the gathering.
With 46 000 ballots cast locally the State election results dominate, showing Ex Governor Curley leading Governor elect Saltonstall by about 6 000. Atty Gen Paul A Dever tops the ticket in Cambridge with 29 685. In the 2nd district Swenson defeats Sullivan for a House seat. Diehl wins a second term.
