More than 200 residents gathered at Durrell Hall for a public discussion on the referendum to be voted next Tuesday. Marcus Morton Jr chaired. Rev John H McLean gave opening prayer. James J Casey outlined taxes totaling 8 520 272 63 for 1933 expenses and a 1934 budget with a 70 cent tax rate increase. Mrs Horace E Hildreth for the League of Women Voters urged budget revision to fit the 1933 figure, advocating economy and suggesting 17 teachers and substitutes could be eliminated.
