Ed Donovan Kew was advanced to Exalted Ruler at the Cambridge Local Lodge of Elks election held Wednesday. Other officers named include Esteemed Leading Knight William Allen and Esteemed Lecturing Knight John I Marshall, with no opposition to Donovan.

By Tuesday all city streets were open for ordinary traffic as crews carted away piled snow and the City Employment Bureau filled with applicants.
The Cambridge tax levy for 1939 stands at 1,649,430, a rise of 859,766 from 1938, due to higher state and Middlesex County costs. Mayor Lyons trimmed the 1929 budget by 454,000 and refused pay raises, cutting 76,000 from the school levy, but state and county taxes still force higher rates.
The Sity Council met Tuesday night with limited vocal participation from Roche Gibson Sennett and Winslow. Sennett failed to obtain committee approval for creating a paid youth commission secretary. A 2 percent statewide sales tax faced opposition as unjust. The council approved 10000 for snow removal and 200 for boiler repairs at the Home for Aged.
