Rapid transit hearing weighs elevates vs subways

Last Wednesday public hearing on rapid transit drew property owners to defend an elevated line and others to favor a subway from Main through Green to Bay Street. Plan six, an elevated Main Green route with a Bay Street subway to Harvard Square, dominates supporters and the committee’s likely recommendation. Critics, including city aldermen and lawyers, spar over dollars, water lines, and council procedures as debate centers on plans, costs, and public benefit.
