Eighteen hundred Lever Brothers employees and friends will skip work Saturday for their annual outing and field day at Pine Island Park Manchester New Hampshire. They depart by Lever special from North Station at 9 00 A M DST arriving Goffs Falls 10 20 A M. Events include hoop rolling three legged races wheelbarrow races and other contests open to all ages with a previous treasure hunt attracting large crowds.
The dispute over H. J. Mahoney of The Sentinel as library trustee continues as Mayor Russell argues a quorum makes the executive appointment legal. City Solicitor Sullivan voices agreement, noting the 7 to 5 council vote and awaiting formal notice on confirmation or rejection.
The Cambridge School Committee rejected naming the new Rindge School the Frederick H. Rindge Technical School. Members Hurley Lynch Wood voted yes with Wood leading a push for an amendment, while Mayor Russell and others voted no. Wood promises further action as tensions flare between city bodies. city solicitor cites limited committee jurisdiction on equipment bought with city loans.
At a City Council Finance meeting and later a School Committee session Mayor Russell faced hostility as John Lynch moved to cut the proposed Rindge school to 40 rooms from 158. Hurley urged expert curriculum study for freshmen and sophomores, while Inspector Isele’s role sparked debate. The 1930 Buildings and Grounds committee had backed full replacement, a vote Lynch tried to rescind, and the session stretched past midnight.
