Gas Light Co. Employees Give Christmas Baskets

Cambridge and Somerville families in need received Christmas cheer from the Employees Christmas Basket Fund. Contributions come from Cambridge Electric Light Co. Cambridge Gas Light Co. and New England Gas and Electric Ass'n. On Christmas Eve morning volunteers gathered at Blackstone Street and by 10 a.m. the baskets were distributed.

Eliot Heads to Washington for Congressional Start

Thomas H. Eliot of Cambridge departed for Washington to take his seat in Congress arriving a day early to attend a White House dinner. His Cambridge office will move to the Post Office at Central Square with Eleanor Baker and John A. Dolan in charge and he hopes to return home briefly in February and March.

New Orleans Visit of Local Trainer Doc Caples

John P. Caples formerly of Cambridge and Salem Teachers College was hosted in New Orleans for hospitality during the week. He met Jim and Steve Duffy Dan Menley Ed Sullivan and Frank Gormerley who named him to the Sugar Bowl committee. Caples did some broadcasting during the trip as hints of southern sites surfaced. The Cambridge crowd attended the football game.

Chamber lunch to feature Lieut Comdr John C Hurd talk

Next Monday at noon at the Smith House Memorial Drive the Chamber of Commerce sponsors a lunch session with Lieut Comdr John C Hurd U S N R of the State Selective Service speaking on Occupational Deferments under the Selective Service Act. Cambridge Industries Featured In Harvard Trust Publicity Drive

Harvard Trust Co through treasurer Arthur Wright sends 12,000 monthly booklets to commercial customers highlighting Cambridge industries that contribute to local fame. The first booklet covers the Wright Brothers Wind Tunnel at MIT, the second Polaroid light control by Polaroid Corp, and the third covers chemistry advancements.

Cambridge Forum opens with Pan-American lecture series

A new Cambridge Forum of four lectures on Pan-American relations opens next Wednesday with a talk by Dr. Ricardo Alfaro at 8 PM in Brattle Hall. The series includes John C. Clark, Frank R. Scott, and William K. Jackson on January 29, February 19, and March 12. An open house with an exhibition of work by 500 adult students follows the first lecture.
