Council Approves Firemen Raise and New Mechanic Post
The city council on Tuesday night approved a defence request of 50000 for an itemized citizen’s committee to raise firemen by 200 annually starting January 6. Twelve members voted yes while Councillor Parker opposed. A master mechanic position for the Fire Dept. with a 2650 salary was approved and city employees on state guard duty were granted full pay.

Col John Atkinson Seeks City Manager Post
Col John B Atkinson born 1894 Cambridge son of the late Thomas E Atkinson has applied for the city manager job. He married Louise M O Shea of East Boston and they have a son Thomas Edward. A Boston College graduate 1916 he studied law and attended Harvard courses. He served in World War I rising to major and later became lieutenant colonel in the National Guard organizing the 26th Division Train. He was Chief Personal Military Aide to Governor Ely and has been cited by the Secretary of War twice.
