A Cambridge town page notes many voters oppose Plan E in the city council race questions. Mayor Sennett’s powers are clipped while hopefuls seek transfers and appointments. City Hall activity is light in mid summer as local figures cough up rumors.
The Kiwanis weekly dinner at The Commander drew sharp minds with questions led by Steve Mahoney and aided by Bill Galgay and Charley Geilfors. Members remained cool and collected as the quiz session unfolded. Continued on Page 5.
William B. McCoy received a gold medal at a luncheon in his honor for over 50 years as an agent for the Home Insurance Company. A framed certificate and commendation followed from L. G. Fitzherbert on behalf of H. V. Smith. McCoy, 75, began in Cambridge then Boston, forming his own office in Central Square in 1890 and later joining George A. Giles & Son in 1939.
Police found four men at the Silver Paradise Cafe 856 Prospect St at 11 20 A M Sunday July 20. Officers Henry J McCarthy and Arthur L Keefe investigated as two cases heard by the License Board Monday awaited decisions.
Harvard Sq. gains a Bowladrome at 22 Dunster St formerly Georgian Cafeteria built by Sacco Rubbico Co. The two floor 100 by 100 foot facility houses 22 alleys with maple lanes and Celotex walls for noise control. Six alleys on street level for finger ball and a second floor billiard parlor.
Plan E Committee reports indicate assessor candidates may apply for questionnaires but Election Commission Secretary Penniman states only City Council and School Comspirants will be voted on. Appointments rest with the City Manager as the Legislature failed to amend the law. This briefing questions electorate confusion.
Morris Frankel an attorney with offices in the Central Square Building joins Plan E candidates. He favors a $2500 annual salary for a part time council and questions a $20000 city manager salary for a city under 120000. A modest, capable citizen ready to serve if elected.
The council held a lively session debating Plan E voter education. Discussions centered on costs for informing voters and potential distribution of sample ballots, with Deputy Penniman and others weighing feasibility and oversight.

Open nights Tuesday to Thursday weather permitting. next Thurs Aug 21 features a catered supper floor show and decorations with proceeds for welfare and charity fund.
