St Mary’s Parish to Host 75th Anniversary Celebration

Community plans for St Mary’s Parish 75th founding anniversary next month are nearing completion. A meeting of all committees in St Mary’s Hall heard enthusiastic reports from Supt. of Buildings John J. Terry and architect William L. Galvin among other engineers and officials.

Patriot's Day Parade Draws Big Crowds on Mass Ave

Hundreds line the Patriot's Day Parade route from Lafayette Square to Harvard Square. Police Chief Leahy leads in a car, followed by Capt. Robert J. Douglass Jr. and a platoon. Veterans groups, ambulance units, and the Fire Dept. band receive strong applause. Dr. Jas J. Cassidy praises heroes at Cambridge Common.

Fourth Police Hearing In City Council Finance Probe

The fourth police hearing in the City Council investigation of Police Dept finances was held yesterday afternoon. Testimony arrived too late for this issue. earlier notes said no session would occur until after next Tuesday or Wednesday, but developments remain possible.

Blanchard presses council on Cambridge chemical storage plans

Senator Arthur F. Blanchard urges public scrutiny of two Dewey & Almy petitions for large storage sites on Alewife Brook Parkway opposite West Cambridge. One seeks 12 000 gallons of Class A petroleum in above ground tanks plus 58 000 gallons already licensed. the other 39 500 gallons in underground tanks plus 69 000 gallons of petroleum products. The hearing by Cambridge License Commissioners is set for 2 p m next Monday.

Local Salvage Committee Organized in Cambridge

The Cambridge Salvage Committee, appointed by City Mer. John B. Atkinson, held its first meeting in the City Council chamber. The group will operate for the duration of the war with a spring drive to collect discarded metal, iron, rubber, and related materials for Uncle Sam’s war effort.

School Board Holds Stirring Session and Salary Debate

The School Board held a four hour meeting marked by heated disputes over submasters salaries from January 5 1942 and a controversial teacher candidate exam scoring plan. Robart's pay motion passed 4 to 2 with Conant Brooks Fitzgerald and Robart voting yes.
