Mrs John A Logan visiting Richmond in 1868 saw Confederate graves decorated with flowers and brought the idea home to her husband General Logan then GAR commander in chief. He issued an order for a similar memorial for Union dead and fixed May 30 as the date. The observance now honors all American wars.
Lincoln high school held its commencement in the auditorium with the school orchestra, invocation by Rev. W H Harrison, and a keynote by W P Dearing president of Oakland City college. Thirty six graduates received diplomas from Superintendent Emerson Cloyd and Principal Harry Winter as Rev E E Davin gave the benediction.
A legal notice from Wilfred Jessup Richmond Indiana May 19 1928 states the hearing date for the gas company petition is postponed due to Commissioner McIntosh being absent from Indianapolis. The original date May 24 1928 is continued and a new date will be set when he returns and municipalities will be notified in ample time to avoid injustice or advantage.
CG T Wright writes from Los Angeles dated May 14 that they will head east on the 22nd bound for Indiana. The note places the travel direction and destination with a clear timeline.
Mr and Mrs Willem F Sterling prepare to depart around June 14 for California. They intend to become suitors there and pursue new prospects while away from home.

The poem celebrates May weather and nature with birdsong and praise for the weather man. It notes a flower brought from the sod woven into a diadem, and ends with John V Wayman of Santa Rosa renewing his Tribune subscription since 1874.
A Sunday ceremony honored the Boulder monument in Capitol Hill Cemetery with a tablet donated by the W R C for Civil War soldiers. Richard Tyner and Comrade Elisha Pritchard led ritual and unveiling while Leroy Tout Post American Legion from Dublin aided. Rev. Ross Cadie delivered the historical address amid low local attendance.
Mrs. Lou Brumfield reports from Masonic Home Franklin Indiana where she is training as a nurse and earning a nurse’s salary while subscribing to the Tribune. Also notes Helen Hunt Club year end meeting with papers on Johannesburg and Acres of Diamonds, and updates on Harry Monger’s move to Cincinnati casket factory employment. Mr and Mrs John Stare of Richmond visited here with Mr and Mrs Carson Mar son.
Community to honor fallen soldiers from multiple wars with a Wednesday Memorial Day program. All schoolchildren, the American Legion, and interested citizens meet at Red Men’s Hall at 1 pm for a parade to Baptist Church, then to the river bridge for a sailors and marines service, and finally to Riverside Cemetery. Citizens may bring flowers to Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Graves on Church Street by Tuesday noon for decorating the parade route. The Baptist church program includes songs and addresses by local figures, with a processional and musical selections noted, ending with community sentiment at the cemetery.
Memorial services will be held Sunday May 27 at about 2 p.m. in Dublin Indiana under the LeRoy Tout post of the American Legion. Harry B McChin of Shelbyville will give the address and the Orphans Home band of Haightstown will provide music. The band consists of forty children from the home and is noted as a strong juvenile organization. Ex service men are urged to attend in uniform to assist with the services.
Memorial Day services are planned for Milton on Sunday May 27 with Rev Wm Harrison of Cambridge City Methodist Church to speak. Music by Wisie Mason Mary Mason and Dorothy Doty. Sherman Working will read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address at veterans graves. Albert Ferris to speak briefly. Patriotic songs included. Memorials also set for Jacksonburg and Germantown with local bands and speakers to be announced.
