Local Boy Scouts Readied for National Jamboree in Washington
The Whitewater Valley Troop 6 led by Scout Master J. C. Smith plans a June 28 to July 9 journey to the National Jamboree in Washington. Participants include Harry Sullivan, William Heywood, Robert Heywood, James Macy, Junior Wilson, David Feemster, Britton Buser, and James Martindale. Buser and Martindale join two days earlier to travel with a 160 member Region Seven band. About 30,000 Scouts from 25 foreign countries will camp on the Potomac. A three day pre camp will occur in advance to train for events and gear, with some boys also attending a July 18-25 summer camp at Hagerstown. Troop 6 recently planted a spruce on Lincoln High School campus and sold bird houses as conservation work, marking its tenth anniversary to be celebrated with a Veteran Charter in June.
